A contemporary development in the market town of Bury St Edmunds, The Lantern is a new residential building that is architecturally inspired by its site’s history as a former gasworks.

Working directly with the architects, we wanted the brand to be inspired by the history of the gasworks as much as the building is. Built in a neglected area, the development aims to improve the community in the same way the gasworks did when it brought street light to the town in 1834. We combined typographic styles to reference the 19th century industrial history while conveying key messages about the building. The colours directly reference the palette used within the materials of the building itself. Throughout the advertising and hoardings, the history of the site is celebrated to highlight the regeneration of the area.

Working with Middle Name has been a breeze. They were keen to get a good understanding of our brief, and what surprised me was the effort they made to develop and refine this further. Our client really appreciated his working methods, ideas, style of presentation, and timely response – ultimately the final product was high-quality and surpassed expectations. I look forward to working with them on future projects.
